Krk is a picturesque mediterranean town situated on the Krk island in north adriatic part of Croatia. Sometimes referred to as "mini Dubrovnik", it is a hidden gem bursting with photo opportunities. We have visited Krk during easter holidays and bring you some of the recommendations for some great photo opportunities there.

Krk Cathedral and Frankopan Castle - Seascape
Krk Cathedral and Frankopan Castle dominate the Krk seascape when coming by boat. The cathedral was built some time in 13th century, while some parts of the fortress date back even to 10th century. There are multiple angles for taking photo of the Krk seascape (see map references), our favorite being the view displayed on this photo taken from punta di galeto, a small cape opposite the fortress. Best times for taking photos are early in the morning or just after sunset. We recommend using wide angle (18-35mm) lens and a polarizer for the best results, or in case of an evening shot, a tripod.

Krk architecture
Krk's medival architecture with its narrow streets, stone buildings and a wealth of cultural landmarks is practically crying out for some photo attention. Points of interest to look out for are Kamplin park, old town core, and small stone gate on the west part of the harbor. Our favorite landmark, the one providing excellent photo opportunity is the clock on a tower at the main town square. It is well lit during the whole day, but we recommend taking photos before and up to noon. Use of telephoto lens (100-300mm) is recommended.

Nature and wildlife
Krk features a lush plant life ideal for some plant portraits especially in the spring. Most common subjects will be flowers seeded along the promenade, providing great and colorful macro photo opportunities. If you want to venture further, we recommend the walk towards Redagara beach where you will enjoy some beautiful beach, panorama shots along the way, as well as an opportunity to spot an occasional squirrel in the pine forest. Wildlife, although not very rich involves some birds such as sparrows, seagulls, geckos, and occasional squirrel. We recommend a good macro lens (for flowers), as well as a good telephoto lens (for wildlife).
